Having grown up in both the Far East and in the West, I came to appreciate many different forms of Arts: Oriental calligraphy, Sumie, Zen art from the East, and Action painting, Lyrical Abstraction, Tachism etc from the Western art. I enjoy working in automatism approach, leaving much of the original energy created by spontaneity, similar ways of working in creating oriental calligraphy. I appreciate both expressive and contemplative nature of the arts mentioned above, particularly the Zen arts and oriental calligraphy. I love the variety of painterly effect that can be achieved through colour and texture and freedom of expression in the other arts mentioned above, and I enjoy exploring in this field. There’s always something new and unexpected happening in the process of working this way, which is so addictive! I hope my love and respect for both culture come through in my work. Above all, I hope it offers some contemplative moment away from the everyday.
