Through my paintings I desire to portray woman as the protagonist while utilizing elements of metaphor, icon, allegory and satire. The recurring theme of women throughout history is rooted in the objectification and sexualization of women. My intent is to shift this focus in a light hearted way by creating celebratory ‘replacement’ myths.I further draw upon phrases from my childhood, visually conceptualizing familiar sayings, poems, and nursery rhymes satirically, deliberately adding an element of whimsy and cynicism to subjects often revered, through the titles chosen. Influenced by a wide range of artistic genres, my main influences include the Flemish masters, the Mannerists, Pop Art, tattoos, urban graffiti, and Film Noir.
