After graduating from the ENSAAMA, Olivier de Serres – Paris, Brigitte Lovisa-Fouché dedicates herself to mural art and particularly to stained glass windows, an activity she carries out for fourteen years. She is involved in many restorations and commissions while working for the Atelier Sylvie Gaudin, until 1996. Among other things, she restores the stained glass windows of the Cathedral of Sens.Leaving this narrow-minded work, she broadens her perspective and frees her inspiration on large surfaces, in which colours flood out intensely. The influence of works of stained glass windows is omnipresent in the structure and composition of her acrylics and Indian inks. Her beloved brother, gone to Polynesia incites her to travel and inspires her.Tattoo patterns from the Marquesas Islands appear in her work. Then, characters, cities, grafitis spring up.Introduction of material, landscapes, coating, collages and inscriptions, superimposed to create greater freedom.Starting from an abstract basis, she looks forth, reading other patterns in the coffee grounds, colours and lines. Then, other paintings emerge from her graphics palette. She travels in different universes with a productive bulimia, alternating patterns of plants, animals and characters, using acrylic, pigments and paper mâché.She spreads out her emotions with brushstrokes, superimposes, scratches, caresses and falls for the subtle game of over-unders, reconnecting with the gesture of a glass painter.“I create my universe, I let my hand wander, the unconscious expresses itself, surprises me.”She draws her inspiration from Tribal Art of Africa, the Marquesas Islands and the Aboriginal People. Her influences:Art Brut, Figuration Libre, Pop Art, Cobra. Her favourite: Alechinsky, Combas, Basquiat, Warhol, Keith Haring, Picasso, Dubuffet.Once and for all, Brigitte Lovisa-Fouché escapes narrow-mindedness.
