Among the artists whose work has inflenced my work, there are a few that stand out in my mind. For one, the first artist I developed a real appreciation for was Gustave Klimt. His use of abstract pattern and color combined with beautifully subtle and emotive portraiture are evident in my use of soft diffuse color contrasted with bright patterns and use of gold and black. I have also been fascinated by the work of Alexander Calder and the use of figure, ground and the interplay between them that occurs with movement.
